For yacht owners

Confidence for
the passage ahead.

Your yacht represents years of planning, investment and anticipation. Entrust its next journey to experienced career mariners, supported by a shore operation that takes its condition, your confidence and every stage of the handover seriously.

Why owners choose North Star

Your confidence should extend beyond the captain.

A skilled independent captain can deliver a yacht well. With North Star, you also appoint a company to select the team, oversee the operation from shore and follow the yacht’s care through to handover.

Meet the experience behind the operation
01

The right people for your yacht

We verify qualifications, references and passage history, supported by our professional knowledge of the captain network. Yacht type, systems, route and crew compatibility all inform the appointment.

02

A view of the journey, wherever you are

You receive access to the yacht’s tracking. Satellite communications connect the captain with our shore team, who relay progress, condition and any decisions that need your attention. Tracking availability depends on equipment and connectivity.

03

A company to turn to when plans change

If a technical issue interrupts the passage, we explain the situation and coordinate practical support. The captain retains onboard command; our shore operation assists with suitable ports, contractors and onward arrangements.

04

Clear costs and a documented finish

Your proposal identifies fees, expenses and approval arrangements. Machinery records, maintenance, condition photographs and outstanding items form part of the delivery handover.

Four ways to work with us

The right support
for the job in hand.

Some owners need a complete delivery operation. Others need an experienced team ashore, a managed shipping solution, or practical support through a new-build handover. Each service has a clearly defined scope.

01 / Managed Yacht Delivery

We deliver.
You stay informed.

For owners who need their yacht moved without arranging the delivery operation themselves. We coordinate the professional captain, crew and long-distance passage from preparation to arrival.

02 / Weather Routing & Passage Support

You sail.
We support from shore.

For owners making the passage with their own crew. You remain captain while our shore team provides an additional professional perspective and agreed operational support.

03 / Yacht Shipping Coordination

Carrier movement.
Properly coordinated.

We coordinate carrier quotations, specialist yacht preparation, loading and discharge—with agreed reinstatement and onward movement connected to the same plan.

04 / New Build Yacht Handover

From the yard
into your hands.

We represent your interests through agreed checks, documented outstanding items and builder follow-up, helping you make an informed handover decision before the yacht’s next journey.

Not sure which route is right?

Tell us what the yacht needs and where you are in the process. We can compare an own-hull delivery with shipping, or shape a handover around the builder’s programme and your intended cruising plans.

Our vessel-care standard

The condition at arrival
matters as much as the destination.

For a new build or a much-loved cruising yacht, protection, maintenance and careful handling are part of our managed-delivery requirements. We work to reduce avoidable wear and preserve the yacht’s condition throughout.

01

Protect the spaces you value

We record departure condition and protect vulnerable upholstery, counters and high-use areas. Appropriate care of exposed stainless steel and fittings, secure stowage and cleaning routines help limit avoidable corrosion and wear without obstructing essential systems.

02

Look after engines and generators

Captains log machinery hours and service work, check the applicable manufacturer schedules and plan for intervals that fall during the passage. Early service requirements on new machinery receive particular attention.

03

Sail with preservation in mind

Sail selection, reefing, speed and routing account for conditions and the yacht’s limits. Conservative handling helps reduce avoidable loads on sails, rigging and systems.

04

Manage machinery use deliberately

Unnecessary running is avoided where practical. Safety, battery charging, equipment needs and passage conditions remain part of every decision; we do not pursue low engine hours at their expense.

05

Arrange the right technical support

Routine servicing is undertaken within the captain’s competence and manufacturer requirements. Major work is coordinated with manufacturers, authorised service providers or appropriate specialists.

06

Hand over a useful record

Arrival condition photographs, machinery hours, service records, defects and outstanding matters give you a clear picture of the yacht and what needs attention next.

At the receiving marina

A handover with a clear history.

Condition photographs · Engine and generator hours · Maintenance records · Defect register · Expenditure summary · Outstanding actions

An ocean passage involves normal use and wear. Servicing follows the requirements of the equipment fitted; warranty decisions remain with the manufacturer.

The right service for your yacht

Sail or motor.
One hull or several.

We coordinate yachts up to 35 metres (approximately 115 feet), with every assignment assessed against condition, range, route, season, insurance requirements and the team it needs.

Long-distance and ocean delivery is our focus. Shipping can offer an alternative where range or other constraints make an own-hull passage unsuitable.

When you make the passage

Your command.
Our support ashore.

Weather Routing & Passage Support brings our shore experience to your own voyage, including agreed coastal legs. We help with weather, routing, tracking and practical arrangements while you remain captain and select your own crew.

We agree communication methods, contact availability and escalation arrangements before departure. You can message throughout the support period; immediate replies and uninterrupted monitoring cannot be guaranteed.

Understand owner passage support
From enquiry to arrival

A clear process from the start.

You do not need a finished passage plan to contact us. Start with the information you know; we will guide the more detailed review.

01

Tell us the brief

The yacht, relevant locations, timing and the outcome you need.

02

Agree the operation

We review the information, clarify readiness and set out the scope, fees, expenses and responsibilities.

03

Prepare and coordinate

The right people, documents, practical arrangements and communication plan come together before departure.

04

Move and hand over

We coordinate the agreed operation and close with the relevant delivery, support, shipping or new-build handover record.

Client experience

Passages supported properly.

Feedback from owners who entrusted North Star Marine with delivery management or shoreside passage support.

“Our 2023 Fountaine Pajot Elba 45 needed to move from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean. North Star helped us assess readiness, crew requirements and the realistic delivery window before anything was booked. Their preparation gave us confidence that the passage was being approached properly.”

For yacht owners / FAQs

A clearer picture of the passage ahead.

From preparing a passage to accepting a new yacht, here are answers to the questions owners ask us most.

Explore all 39 owner FAQs
How do I access my private project portal?

North Star sends you a private invitation to set up your password. After that, use Owner & Captain Portal at the top of the website. You see only the projects assigned to your account. If you need access or a fresh setup link, contact the shore team.

Can I follow my yacht through satellite tracking?

Yes. For an equipped passage, we place the agreed satellite tracking link in your project portal. Open it to see the yacht’s latest reported position on the provider’s tracking page. Check the position timestamp: updates depend on the device, reporting interval and satellite connectivity. Tracking complements the agreed passage updates; it is not continuous monitoring or an emergency channel.

Why appoint North Star rather than an independent delivery captain?

A capable independent captain may be an excellent mariner. North Star adds a company-managed operation around that person: captain verification, a shared brief, weather and practical support ashore, vessel-care requirements, reporting and coordinated handover. You have an accountable point of contact for the operation and additional support when circumstances change.

Who will actually deliver my yacht?

North Star checks qualifications, references, passage records and relevant yacht experience, drawing on captains known through our professional network. We match the appointment to the vessel, route, season, systems and wider crew. The captain receives an agreed operating brief and reports to our shore team throughout the managed delivery.

Will my yacht be protected during the passage?

Yes. Departure photographs and condition records establish the starting position. We protect vulnerable finishes and furnishings using materials suited to the yacht, secure equipment and keep essential systems accessible. Captains are required to keep maintenance and machinery logs and handle the yacht conservatively to reduce avoidable wear.

Normal passage use and wear remain possible. Our vessel-care standard explains the practical measures around protection, servicing and handover.

How will I be kept informed during a managed delivery?

You receive access to vessel tracking, with satellite communications connecting the delivery captain and our shore team. North Star relays relevant progress, condition, weather and routing decisions, technical developments and arrival arrangements. Tracking availability and update intervals depend on the equipment and connection; a position display does not replace operational reporting.

What happens if a major fault or unexpected cost arises?

The captain takes the action needed for immediate safety. North Star promptly relays a situation report as communications permit, explains the options and helps coordinate a suitable port, manufacturers or contractors. We seek timely competitive quotations where practical and approval through the agreed authority before non-urgent additional work. Changes to timing and cost are explained.

What does owner passage support mean in practice?

You remain legally and operationally responsible for the yacht, crew, navigation and onboard decisions. We provide shoreside weather and routing input, tracking oversight, decision support, emergency contact standby and practical coordination with marinas, ports or agents as agreed.

What does New Build Yacht Handover include?

The scope can include liaison with the builder, dealer and yard; launch and commissioning coordination; sea-trial attendance; a documented list of outstanding items; document and inventory review; builder follow-up; and readiness for the next phase. Owner familiarisation and practical handling are optional, separately scoped and priced.

We tailor the owner-representation appointment to the build stage and the owner’s intended use rather than applying a generic handover checklist.

What costs are included in a managed delivery?

The proposal will identify the management fee, captain and crew costs, travel, fuel, provisions, communications, marina or port charges and other anticipated expenses. Third-party costs and reasonable passage expenses are normally payable by the owner as set out in the agreed terms.

Let’s plan the right next step.

Share the yacht, timing and outcome you need. We’ll help define the right delivery, passage-support, shipping or new-build handover brief.
