What affects yacht delivery costs?
A useful yacht delivery quotation explains both the professional work and the assumptions behind the expenses. A price per nautical mile can be a starting point, but it is not the whole cost of moving a yacht.
Professional fees and crew
The captain and crew may be priced per nautical mile, per day or for a defined scope. The basis depends on the assignment. A fixed daily rate does not make the overall amount fixed if the number of chargeable days is still estimated. Preparation, travel and standby time should be addressed explicitly.
Delivery management covers the coordination around the crew: preparation, communication, shore oversight and handover. A proposal should explain the agreed scope rather than leave the owner to guess what is included.
Travel, provisioning and port expenses
Mobilisation and repatriation can involve flights, baggage, transfers, accommodation and entry requirements. Provisioning depends on crew numbers and expected onboard days. Marina charges, clearance agents and intermediate stops may also need allowances.
Some expenses can be supported by current supplier quotations; others are estimates. Clarify whether they are fixed, capped or reconciled against actual expenditure and how additional spending will be authorised.
Fuel is an assumption to explain—not a universal figure
For a motor yacht, passage consumption depends on the actual engines, loading, speed and conditions. A sailing yacht’s expected motoring and generator use also vary. Usable capacity, range and fuel availability require vessel-specific assessment.
Providing tank capacities and any reliable consumption records helps. Do not invent a fuel-burn figure just to complete the form: tell us what is known and what needs checking. A budget calculation is not a navigational fuel or reserve plan.
Condition and timing change the scope
A yacht described as ready may still have outstanding safety equipment, maintenance or technical work. Access for checks, available documents, recent surveys and known defects help establish the likely preparation requirement.
Weather delays, defects, changes to the destination or missed transport connections can alter time and expense. The proposal should explain the assumptions and change process; a desired arrival date is not a safety guarantee.
What to send for an accurate quotation
Start with the make, model, year, size and type of yacht; exact departure and arrival ports; timing and flexibility; current location and condition; known defects; safety and insurance status; and the services required.
Our quotation form adapts to the selected services. If information is unknown, identify it honestly. We can then ask focused follow-up questions rather than base a proposal on false precision.
This guide explains how we scope a quotation. It is not a vessel-specific passage plan, survey, insurance opinion or fixed-price offer.
Let’s put the right scope around your yacht.
Share the yacht, location and intended outcome. We aim to acknowledge enquiries within one working day and confirm quotation timing after reviewing the scope.
